The Laguna Concert Band (LCB) is
an all-volunteer, non-profit organization of over 60 members from Laguna Beach and surrounding communities under the direction of Dr. Bill Nicholls, Ed Peterson and Pete Fournier. LCB is a registered College Class offered through Irvine Valley College.
Mission Statement :
“The mission of the Laguna Concert Band is to foster the musical talent and education of our members while striving to enrich the cultural life of the community by providing quality entertainment to diverse audiences. In addition, we strive to support music education and interact with other artistic organizations.”
LCB and Irvine Valley College
As an ongoing Class of the Prestigious Irvine Valley College, the LCB has the on-going support from the college administration.
Providing marketing and exposure, IVC promotes the band throughout the community bringing both new players and new community awareness to the band. Additionally, IVC coordinates with LBHS administration to provide the facilities the band uses; this including the Band Room, other rooms, and the beautiful Artist Theater. The LBHS rental charges as well as Liability Insurance is provided through IVC. LCB Conductors are paid teaching instructors of the college.
Class Fees
California’s financial problems have led to budget cuts, which affect IVC dramatically which have resulted in the elimination of classes and of raising fees for classes in 2010.
The LCB is one IVC class and the Small Ensembles are a separate IVC class. Each class costs $30 per semester. This means $90. per year per class. For members taking both classes, the yearly fee will be $180.
Fee Comparisons
LCB: Began in 1998 under the LB Recreation department with a $30 per semester fee.
Huntington Beach Community Band: for 2009 was $75 per year and will be $100 per year in 2010
Golden West Pop's band has been $75 per calendar year as of 2009.
Private lessons: $40-60 per hour.
Current LCB Value: Each semester, on average contains 16 rehearsals. The average cost to band member is $2 per rehearsal.
The LCB is uniquely blessed with 3 fine conductors providing members with a highly dynamic musical experience. Additionally, special clinics taught by some of the foremost instrumentalist are regularly scheduled to further enhance the educational aspect of the class.
Scholarship Program
The LCB Board has developed a special scholarship fund to assist members who will find the class fee to be an undue hardship. This will be a completely confidential process and will be administered by Ed Petersen. For further information contact Ed Petersen at ed@hradvisors.com 949-494-4219 949-395-3043
